  Where's the Austin flash mob?

I'm sure by now we've all heard about flash mobs-- organized spontaneous meet-ups of large numbers of people. First created in New York, they've now spread to even Minneapolis. So, the question is, where is Austin in all of this? Surely in this tech-haven, this could be put on quite easily. Well, just throwing this out there. Austin-bloggers is a highly connected group .... anyone have any good original ideas (and oh yeah, enough people to invite to make it interesting)?

Good idea! I'd like to join in something like this. How about any of these places?

1. Roof of Speakeasy Bar
2. Umlauf Sculpture Gardens
3. Treaty Oak Square
4. Top of Mount Bonnell
5. Laguna Gloria or AMoA downtown
6. Eastwoods Park

what's a good day and time? how can we make this austin weird?

The rally point has to be fairly public and visable... makes the civillians go,"huh?"

I'm up for this! Let's get it going!

If you need some help getting this going, drop us a line... We are working on a F.A.Q. for those who want to start their own event. We are in the process of organizing event #3.

link to a flash mob in boston

how about crawford? secret service be damned. lots of people chanting 'halliburton' over and over.

too political? how about celebrating cecil b. demille's birthday on august 12th with folks in front of the paramount theater getting ready for their close-up?

elvis died on august 16...converge on a greeting card shop the way the folks in boston did and say we are looking for a sympathy card for lisa marie.

hwo about the arboretum.
outside the cheesecake factory? weekends are busy enough to warrant enough attention. after something inane like doing some yoga motions all go to the starbucks in Barnes and Noble and ask for a Orange Mocha Frappucino?

I think a place like the Cheesecake Factory would be perfect. How does one organize enough people to do something like this?

sweet. a flash mob. we can spread the word via email, by forwarding to everyone we know in austin and asking them to forward and so on. we'll need a date, time, location, and simple but exact instructions.

I'm in. This is exactly the kind of thing me and my brother used to sit around saying we'd do someday. Keep Austin Weird...

Funny. We've already done three flash mobs here in Austin - I'm surprised that none of you have gotten the memo yet. We started in June, and we've got a good list of people already. Maybe we should coordinate?

arthur...can you let us in on the next one?
co-ordination is required and at the same time avoiding press and publicity needs to be taken care of. i think one way people are posting on this forum (atleast i did) is because when you do a google search for "flash mobs austin" this is one of the first legit forums which shows up. anyways for the future lets get something co-ordinated.

I am crazy enough (even for a 65-year old) to enjoy something like this. Enjoyed to press you received this week. Have umbrella - will travel. Let me know where and when.

should be political.

or the people that are participating become
part of the great distraction (The Matrix)

Express modernity and its Discontents.

Namely Globalization, International Banking, The Patriot Act.

Something that makes fun at the absurd system “we” have constructed.
