First Thursday Cancelled!
Astonishingly, in response to the continued noise ordinance brew-ha-ha borne out of SXSW, APD has revoked the permit for this week's First Thursday event. Apparently, they were able to invoke some little known provision in the Austin Code of Ordnances governing mass gatherings which happen to fall on the first of a month (aka, this Thursday). Anyway, I'm of the opinion that this is a bit extreme. Besides the fact that the whole "riot" on 6th street probably never should have even occurred, I'm not quite sure what one has to do with the other. In anycase, it is poor decision making like this which will eventually drive people (and business) away from Austin. Hopefully they'll come to their senses sooner rather than later! Red Hat blogs
Yesterday, I stumbled across blogs.redhat.com. It looks like they got off the ground towards the beginning of March and are currently chronicling their "state of Linux" world marketing tour. I'd be skeptical of dark-side marketers too, but I did see this: "I'm the manager of the Marketing Communications department at Red Hat. I'm one of the people fighting to keep Red Hat from becoming too Corporate and Capitalized." We shall see. Apparently, they're making a documentary. The partisan divide
I saw the Richard Clarke interview on 60 minutes tonight, some pretty damning stuff. Here's a blatant attempt at spin on Clarke which I found linked on Drudge ...humorously shoddy journalism. Overall, Clarke seemed only to want to overstep bonds of loyalty given the extremely poor job Bush is doing running the country. In fact, it almost smacks identical to what Paul O'Neill discussed in his Price of Loyalty interviews. And yet, despite the bipartisan bureaucrats, battle lines are certainly now being drawn and the race is on. As daypop.com just told me, this is no better illustrated than at the nascar themed (can nascar dads be found in these donation lists?) fundrace.org. Either enter the name of the person you want to see donation amounts for, or enter a zip and see all the donations from that area. It's clear where Microsoft stands. Also seems like brother Jeb better pony up that other 1000 dollars like ma and pa did. Interesting stuff: John Ellis Bush - Governor - State Of Florida Barbara Streisand - Actress/Singer - Self-employed Sean Combs - Entreperneur - Bad Boy Entertainment - Self William H. Gates - CEO - Microsoft Corp. By Gary at 12:43 AM in World | Comments (0) March 19, 2004
Not So Fast
As seen on BoingBoing, Fast Company has a series of interesting articles on corporate blogging (be sure to check the related stories). They go in-depth on the corporate blogging phenomenon paying particular attention to Robert Scoble's Microsoft Blog (external to Microsoft) as well as hinting at supposed internal-only blogging at IBM. Alas, no love for Dell (linux.dell.com/blog) and its internal-to-the-company yet public-facing blog. On a related cool note, guess who currently gets the google result for linux blog...
