  Blog Spammers Win

I've turned off commenting on my blog since I've been blogging mostly at Torrentocracy and I've really been pelted with blog spammers lately. It's too annoying to keep up with and I'm not content to live with graffiti spray painted on my home.

  AOL Subliminal Advertising During MNF

What's with the random IM chimes during Monday Night Football? I've noticed this the last couple weeks, and it appears the AOL folk are running a campaign to remind you of their product in the middle of the football game by inserting the familiar sound in the background noise inbetween plays.

Or, am I just hearing things? Maybe they are just upset over the lost cultural importance of the "you've got mail" guy.

Ohio State projected to jump to #2 in the BCS

Brad Edwards at ESPN is projecting that Ohio State will overtake USC in the BCS rankings even though Southern Cal didn't lose this weekend. Well, the Buckeyes are the defending national champions.

Did I mention the Bengals are in first place.

Foo has gone mostly unupdated lately as I've been working hard on producing some new blogs. Go check out TexasForClarkBlog.com to see the final product. The site design was mostly done by Kathy Oeffinger and I think it came out well. She's been busy at work on the TexasForClark.com site.

  flash mob idea update

I'm at LinuxWorld right now, but based on the suggestions that keep rolling in on my previous flashmob blog entry, it seems like the concensus idea which I like the best is to coordinate something outside the new Cheesecake Factory in the Arboretum. I happen to like this idea just because I never understood the hype behind these restaurants-- really, to me, I find it rather horrid to have to wade through advertisements on my menu as well as the room itself is a glorified cafeteria with columns to distract you from this fact.

Anyway, people seem to flock regardless and I never quite got it. The irony is that where now sits another "Something for Everyone!" cookie-cutter corporate dining experience, the previous tenant was the independent movie theater, Arbor 7. Wouldn't it be appropriate if we all randomly showed up doing such things as asking the Factory hostess for directions to the Arbor 7, showtimes for your favorite indie movie, or, perhaps, their opinions on the cinematography in Waking Life?

That movie made me nervous. I'm sure the hostess will be too. Thoughts?

  Where's the Austin flash mob?

I'm sure by now we've all heard about flash mobs-- organized spontaneous meet-ups of large numbers of people. First created in New York, they've now spread to even Minneapolis. So, the question is, where is Austin in all of this? Surely in this tech-haven, this could be put on quite easily. Well, just throwing this out there. Austin-bloggers is a highly connected group .... anyone have any good original ideas (and oh yeah, enough people to invite to make it interesting)?

  doh!

This morning was sweet. I hit all 4 green lights on Parmer between Riata and MoPac. Nobody was on the road and I guess the stars were aligned or something because hitting all those lights is a pretty rare occurence. Of course, with all that open road and nothing to stop me, i was doing just about 80...

Get onto Mopac and am almost to Wells Branch when I see the cop on his motorcycle with his lights on. Did you know that reckless driving is a class B misdemeanor and is an arrestable offense? But, sir, I was just late for work. No, I didn't realise you had to do 115 to catch up with me.

My first Texas ticket. 75 in a 55. doh!

Should have known something was aligned to get all those green lights in a row. At least texas has great laws on getting tickets expunged. Anybody have the best suggestion for the defensive driving class?

  mmm, Skyline

Back home in Cincinnati for the weekend. Must have skyline chili. Living in texas, you hear a lot of that texas superiority attitude, but there's no chili like skyline for me. I've even heard a couple who've had skyline before saying "you call that chili". But thats right, i do, and its good. So good that they're sending it to the crew of the USS Nimitz in Iraq. Yes, that's right, its so beloved that this is how Cincinnati school children support our troops.

"What do you mean you put the chili on top of spaghetti?" And if I had more time, I'd be stopping at the Montgomery Inn, too. There'd be quite an uprising in Texas if they knew how good those ribs were.

  The Royal We

On occasion, I'll find myself pondering what the name of my band would be if I were in a band (or had some form of musical talent). Yesterday, I came up with "The Royal We". But, alas, it appears its already taken. And taken again. So much for original thought.

In anycase, the thought process which led me to this name stemmed from The Big Lebowski. If you haven't seen this movie, you should, or something. Any movie with a role for Saddam Hussein can't be bad. But, that's just like my opinion, man. The dude abides.

  Freaky

It took me a couple days before I realized it, but on the current Texas license plates the shuttle flying over Texas in the left corner is kind of freaky. I doubt these plates will exist for much longer now. I almost feel like putting a black ribbon on my plates next to the pic.

And speaking of freaky, did you see the Michael Jackson thing on ABC last night? Man that guy is just seriously messed up. Its almost hard to look at him for an extended amount of time. Its amazing what a crazy rich person can do to him/self. Usually, I wouldn't watch this kind of trashy TV, but for Michael Jackson I can make an exception. As for trash TV, what has become of 20/20? From what I could tell of the previews of upcoming stories, its turned into a celebrity news mag. What the hell is wrong with the citizenry of this country? Wake up, who cares about this meaningless crap. Except for Michael Jackson, of course.

Anyway, here's some more Jacko fun. A wook or a wookie is a semi-derogatory term for a dreaded hippie type person. Wooks.org was built for spreading the wookie love.
